The Sludge Inside Your Water

I never miss an opportunity to play…er…work with power tools. Chains saws, table saws, drills, and of course cut off grinders. That’s why when it was time to replace my water heater, I obviously cut it open.

I figured it would be a great learning aid for my new inspectors. A cut out would show the insulation in the tank walls, the elements, the anode rod and the dip tube. So I let the sparks fly.

What I did not expect to see was all the sludge. I knew water heaters needed to be flushed regularly, I had a flushed mine a few times, but clearly not enough. If you haven’t flushed your water heater, and lets be real, you haven’t flushed your water heater, then this is probably what is inside it.
