National Children Science Congress 2014

While going through some old stuff, I found something on which I have worked on my school time. This was my first event as a group leader.

National Children Science Congress(NCSC) 2014 is the national level competition to encourage the students to develop a scientific approach and work out on the problems of their local area.

Understanding ‘WEATHER & CLIMATE’ was the focal theme. We have to select the topics given in the guide book, or we can come up with any topic related to the focal theme.

After concerning with the team and respected faculty member, we come up with our project title ‘WEATHER, CLIMATE ENERGY & ECONOMY’, that how weather and climate of our area can help in generating renewable energy and can provide employment to several people thus boosting the local economy.

Our team comprised of five members, and we started working on the project in May 2014. We have conducted surveys in our local areas, talked to farmers about their dependency on the weather, and how much they are affected at the time of the flood.

We conducted surveys on how many villages in our district don’t have electricity and usage of solar panels in the area.

Collection of data, performing small experiments and conducting surveys took a lot of time than expected. We completed our project file a few days before the competition date.

The first level of NCSC was at the district level. With all our hard work and efforts, we stood first at the district level. This was the best feeling ever. Working day and night for something we believe has finally paid off.

But we still have a lot to do, to win at the state level. With a few weeks in hand, we put our heart and soul in the project to make it what we wanted.

Now, we competed for the team of different districts of a mighty state Uttar Pradesh. Everything about the competition was great but above all, I was very excited to see the Chief Guest, Missile Man & Former President of India, Late Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

After the speech of Chief Guest, the competition started, we presented our project to the representative judges showing our research, surveys, everything we got and trying to answer each question that asked from us.
We were confident of our selection in the finals, but the result wasn’t what we expected. We all were disappointed, our head was down. After putting everything, we weren’t able to make it.

Those six months of my life was a great experience. I pushed my limits, learned how to lead a project, I met new people and explored my district in such a way, that I had never done before. But above all, I learned how to lead, how to manage and how to motivate, inspire myself and my team members to work for what we believe no matter how the conditions were.

Everything about NCSC 2014 was memorable.
