Last Night

A poem

Last night I was so, very tired.

Last night I went to bed early and as I lay on my side, with my blanket over me, it came to my attention, that you had not left my mind.

From the moment we had last spoken, your voice was still ringing in my ears, your touch still upon my fingers and your taste still on the tip of my tongue.

As I lay on my side, with my blanket over me, it came to my attention, that you had not left my mind.

It came to my attention that as I lay in bed at night, I can imagine you being right by my side,

I can imagine you playing with my hair as I drift off to sleep.

I can imagine you and I , finally becoming us.

It came to my attention last night, that what I have found with you, it’s true,

Though the thought frightens me, I think maybe love is real, though I know I must wait, for if it is real, it is destined to last.

Last night, I thought of the future, and for the first time, in a long time, it was beautiful.

Last night, I wanted my hand to be nowhere but in yours, I wanted your warmth to seep into my skin, I wanted your voice to whisper into my ears and send a shiver down my spine.

As I lay on my side, with my blanket over me, it came to my attention, that you had not left my mind.
