This collection highlights a few disruptors that are trying to bring fresh and creative conversations to the podcast space.
Everyone said that it would go by quickly…..
I lost count of how many times I heard the ‘ole, “you’ll be gone before you know it!” shpeel.
As it turns out, everyone was correct!
It seems that as soon as I got in the groove of living the life in China, it was time to pack up and head west to Barcelona. I had my routine down pat:
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Obviously I had variations in my schedule from time to time, but this was how my day was laid out on most occasions. I can’t lie, I really enjoyed it! This whole experience has revealed to me the incredible ability that humans have to completly uproot themselves and adjust to living, even establishing a routine, in a completely foreign environment. Did I feel at home? No. Did I feel like I could have stayed longer? Absolutely!
And while I did truly enjoy the daily ritual that I found myself in, I enjoyed just as much the deviations from my schedule. This was aided by the fact that I was living in such a massive city. With a population of 30 million people, Guangzhou had so much to offer! There were plenty of restaurants to try, monuments to visit, and attractions try out. Having never lived in a “big city” before, I can now see the appeal. Anytime you want to do something, you simply need to walk out the door and see what opportunity awaits. And while I could potentially see myself adopting this lifestyle at some point, I would ultimately still like to have a yard in the future… Don’t underestimate the soothing ability of grass.
While I don’t have much in the name of experiences to report on, I just wanted to record some of the best and some of the worst aspects about living in China.
I hate to end on a bitter note like that, because I really enjoyed my time in China! In the end, the pros vastly outweighed the cons, and I had an unforgettable experience. My primary issue with China is one that is based in my personal ideologies, and I’m actually quite happy that I was able to live life on the other side for a few months to better understand my position. Talk about getting out of my comfort zone! And while I could stay for longer, it is time to pack up the bags and head to sunny Barcelona.
So long Chicken Feet, hello Tapas!!!
PS:
I did want to throw in one last experience that I did have in China that didn’t make it into any other post. Here is a video I made from a Taoist Temple located just outside of Guangzhou.
Until next time,
