Why there are no actions made by the United Nation?

Pollution is not a problem that only sticks in one place, in fact, it has a humongous global impact by causing urgent issues, such as global warming and climate change. The scholar article “UN Climate Change Conference, Copenhagen 2009: whatever works?” by Jack T. Trevors and Milton H. Saier, Jr., states that the current plan that published by the United Nation, has no effects at all, instead, potentially changing the society in a worse way.

Before we jump into the main idea right away, let’s first understand what is United Nation.

Pollution is an issue that should be discussed, analyzed, and eventually resolved in the United Nation since it is the best platform for representatives from different countries to consult problems. Yet, the minimum agreement was reached, and it cannot convince the public. These international failures force society to make adjustments. “A change of habit always requires some inconvenience and pain, and most people are reluctant to think either globally or locally.” The authors said, “Meanwhile, global pollution is on the rise as our population grows and our per capita resource consumption increases”(Trevors and Milton, 2010).

the authors state “ It seems ironic that countries can successfully plan years in advance for Olympic Games but cannot adequately plan for a conference to avoid a potentially catastrophic event such as global climate change” (Trevors and Milton, 2010). It is an interesting statement, countries are placing more energy and money into the Olympic games, but will never seriously work on the pollution problem, and that is because all the countries are only fighting for their own advantages, such as reinforce the military or manufacture. Everything that can benefit a country, costs energy, natural resources, and money, and causes pollution.

In the end, the authors also provided a couple of solution that reduces the global greenhouse emission, but they also upset the fact that rational person would not be in agreement of such a shift in economic priorities. solutions include:

Shifting to the use of green energy sources, such as wind, tidal, and solar

Using much more efficient transportation vehicles such as bikes and public buses and trains

Conserving by reducing consumption and waste, reusing when possible, and, when all else fails, recycling

Halting of the use of unnecessary products, many of which we would even be happier without

Limiting human population growth by providing universal free birth control and abortion services

It is a disappointment, that the United Nation won’t be able to set up a completed plan for global pollution, also, it is heartbreaking that even the public won’t take any operations in connection with these problems. I think it is a moment to stood up to defend our future, without any actions, the future will be covered in pollution, and human will head towards to the end. Perhaps, the ideal future will come true, and it no longer lives in imagination.
