It’s been 30 years since Michelle was burned alive in her home.

Tonight as I was browsing the Utah unsolved homicides list, I found the unsolved murder of Michelle Halling. I went straight to Google and found a lack of information regarding Michelle. There are two articles pertaining her case, with the exact same information.

Michelle Halling died on February 22, 1990 of smoke inhalation caused by a fire ruled arson. The fire accelerant was poured around Michelle’s bed, according to the police in 1990 they were waiting further testing to see if the accelerant was also poured on Michelle’s body. I haven’t been able to find information on the results of that test. No one has actually been able to obtain that information, 30 years later.

Prior to the murder, the police had been called out to her home multiple times for domestic violence reports. There has been zero visibility into those reports.

On the night of the murder, according to the neighbors they heard Michelle screaming for help and attempted to help her however they couldn’t get through the entry of the home. Police weren’t sure if this was from the structure collapsing or intentionally being blocked. With foul play being involved it can only be assumed that it was intentional.

According to the very brief information provided by law enforcement, Michelle’s live-in boyfriend was questioned and quickly released. No further details have been provided surrounding the interview of her boyfriend or her murder in general. When searching for information about her boyfriend even a name the police are withholding that information from their reports, even the ones released to the family.

Michelle had three children however none were home during the time of the murder. Michelle was so badly burned she had to be identified by her dental records.
